Aprašymas
A poignant story of friendship, discovery, and the power of art to transform lives.
Peter Clapham Sheppard was a painter who remained largely unknown until the groundbreaking publication of Peter Clapham Sheppard: His Life and Works reintroduced him and his work to Canadian audiences. This companion book, Bound by Art and Time, is a memoir, mini-biography, and art history book all in one. It examines the sequence of serendipitous encounters and loyal friendships that were key in the preservation and rediscovery of Sheppard's works.
Bound by Art and Time is also a deeply felt, almost poetic look at a more personal side of Sheppard and at the vital friendships between Sheppard and Bernice Fenwick Martin and then, later, between Martin and Louis Gagliardi, both of whom were critical in bringing Sheppard's work out of the shadows and into the light.
At the same time, Gagliardi examines Bernice Fenwick Martin's own artwork, much of which was created in Sheppard's company. Her story sheds light on Sheppard's life and work, and on the life of women artists in Canada in the early-mid 20th century.
Praise for Peter Clapham Sheppard: His Life and Work
"Peter Clapham Sheppard was a retiring, elusive artist whose skill and vision, untouched by the noisy nationalism of some of his peers, can now finally be properly celebrated in the remarkable artistic rediscovery that is unveiled in the pages of this book."
