Aprašymas
Both Sides of the Wood gathers six decades of John Freeman's poetry, from a first collection in 1967 through a succession of books to a substantial body of new work. Freeman writes in lineated lyric, in long discursive verse, and in prose poems, while sustaining the act of looking, and a readiness to revise thoughts mid-sentence. Childhood in south London, Monet at Giverny, and the slow stripping of an apple tree across one winter all receive the same patient poetics. What accumulates is a record of consciousness held steadily enough to register both the glacier that flattened a valley and the last yellow leaf on a pruned branch.
