The author shares his personal life experiences starting with his early years growing up in the poorest streets of Bogotá. Like many other mothers in the neighborhood, the author's mother believed that her son's best chance for a successful future was as a tradesman: a mason, a plumber, a carpenter, or a silversmith. At a tender age, he experienced child labor exploitation firsthand, the author soon set his sights to the north and thus began his life long journey of self-betterment through higher education and traveling the world.
