Jo Tanis is a hero in name only. She might have superpowers, but she's under the thumb of the Agency who controls all the supers around the world, setting up fake fights to entertain the public. With her Guardian Mike, she's forced to live a life that's not hers... until one day when an alien ship arrives.

In the ensuing chaos, almost all of the front-line supers are killed, unable to use their skills effectively after years of play-fighting and pretend-wins. Jo escapes, but she's living on borrowed time, thanks to the Agency's hold on her life. Gathering a team of survivors around her, she's determined to save not only her life but the rest of the world--if they can all step up and become the heroes they need to be.
