What could have happened in the nursery?

This was Ms. Bernard coming for the interview.

Roman sat rooted to his chair as he watched the big passenger door slide slowly back. He squinted through the sunbeams until he saw the metal mechanism leave its vertical position for the horizontal. Then it hit him. "She's in a wheelchair!" he exclaimed. "I'd never have guessed."

Thoughts rushed through his mind. Did he want someone in his office who was handicapped?

By now, Sandy was on the lift, but Ramon couldn't take his eyes away. Her face was lovely.
