Aprašymas

Scholars in Indonesia and worldwide face the task of preserving the Indonesian cultural heritage in the best possible way. Physical items are kept in public and private collections in Indonesia or in families of puppeteers and village communications. Due to the colonial occupation of Indonesia, however, countless items also found themselves in museums all over the globe, and conservators there face possibly a bigger challenge then people in Indonesia, because they have not been educated in the cultural environment necessary to understand cultural details. It is one thing to preserve the material, quite another to do justice to the meaning of an item. This is the reason why we tried to bring together Indonesian and foreign scholars, conservators and lecturers in conservation in this book and initiate - because it cannot be called more - a communication for the well-being of the cultural heritage
