Marcus Greenspan is a doctor working in the American Hospital in Paris in the winter of 1919. The First World War has just ended, and he is anxious to return home to Kentucky and to his fiancé, Sarah Gold.

Paris is alive with the freedom that comes with peace, and Marc is swept away by the wild social life of his adopted city. He begins simultaneous affairs with an older French woman, Aurélie Laprix, and a young German prisoner of war, Maximilian Berger.

Things become complicated when his best friend at the hospital, a British doctor named Paul Cordette, embarks on an affair with Max's old roommate, Django Bernhardt, and then Marc finds out Sarah is on her way to Paris.

What happens to our round-robin troupe of lovers during this unprecedented moment of history -- and how they extricate themselves from their happy, self-made predicament -- is the story of 'Aurélie & Max'.
