Her writing honors include two Pushcart Prize Special Mentions, the Witness Literary Award in Fiction, and Runner-Up for the BOA Short Fiction Prize. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The Ohio State University and has taught at The Ohio State University, Columbus College of Art & Design, and University of California - San Diego. Originally from Memphis, she currently lives in San Diego with her partner and their very anxious dog.
