Kaip nepasakius ačiū Mamai, kuri davė pinigų ir pirmajam, ir antrajam fotoaparatui! Tais laikais ir dvylika, ir keturiasdešimt penki rubliai mūsų kaimiškoje šeimoje buvo dideli pinigai. Matyt, Mama mane, kaipo septintą vaiką, pagranduką, lepino, nesuniekino mano užgaidų. Ačiū ir Tėtei, kuris pinigus uždirbdavo ir atiduodavo patikimai ir taupiai iždininkei, o toliau nieko nežinodavo...

Sesuo Aldona Rygoje nupirko ir man atvežė didintuvą, ryškinimo bakelius ir voneles, kad nustočiau kėsinęsis lėkščių iš komodos.

Per daugiau kaip pusę amžiaus daug kas iš esmės pasikeitė: nei fotojuostų, nei ryškalų nebereikia, o štai išmanusis telefonas kartais duoda geresnį vaizdą negu brangus Nikonas... Nepasikeitė tik jausmas – ar norisi į nuotrauką vėl ir vėl žiūrėti, kitiems parodyti, ar nurašyti – ai, neišėjo... O po kelerių metų pasirodo, kad tas neišėjo buvo geresnė nuotrauka, negu iš pradžių parinkai... Čia ir yra fotografijos žavesys bei mįslė...

I should not forget to thank my Mom, who gave me money for both the first and the second camera! In those days, twelve and forty-five rubles were a lot of money in our rural family. Apparently, Mother indulged me being the seventh, and the youngest, child in the family, and she did not neglect my fancies. Thanks also to Dad, who used to earn money and give it to a reliable and economical treasurer, and then he didn't interfere...

My sister Aldona in Riga bought and brought me a magnifier, developing tanks and tubs so that I would stop stealing plates from the chest of drawers.

In more than half a century, a lot has fundamentally changed: neither film nor developers are needed anymore, and now a smartphone sometimes gives a better image than an expensive Nikon... Only the feeling has not changed: you either want to look at the photo again and again, show it to others, or write it down as a waste.  And after a few years, it turns out that that waste was a better picture than you initially chose... This is the charm and mystery of photography...
