This book is for young girls ages 11 to 14. It is a story of friendship, young love, keeping promises and learning when not to, and solving a baffling mystery. Maria, moving to a new school, leaves behind a troubled friend and finds her new school is packed full of secrets that will not be told and evil that simply must be stopped. Promises have been made and promises must never be broken, or should they? Maria and her friends realize how serious making a promise is and have come up with an idea. Using salt packs that they keep with them, they take a little pinch of salt out of their pouch and place it in the pouch of the one they are making the promise to. In doing this, since there is no way to separate their salt from their friends, they are showing they will never go back on their promise. But what happens when it could mean real harm to someone to keep it? Maria and her friends find out the answer in this work, "A Promise Is A Promise."
