This book A History of the Nikyob (Kaninkon) People from Earliest Times to 2000 is a pioneer work on the hitherto unexplored history of the group inhabiting the present day Jema'a Local Government Area in Kaduna State. It covers their socio-cultural, political, and economic realities right from the pre-colonial era through the modern day. Like in many African societies, their history was scattered, undocumented and largely within the realm of fables, legends and unverified conclusions especially about the period, place and nature of their migrations up to their present site. Now, this book explores the various ways in which the factors of environment, jihadist invasions and European colonial administration have shaped their entire history. With a thorough utilization of the technique of source criticism (corroboration), the author critically cross-examined primary and secondary sources and evidence from archeology to arrive at the final product being made available. In reality, the book encompasses a broad range of topics such as history, migration, religion, colonialism, urbanization etc. Written in a simple but yet professional language, the book is a compelling and engaging piece for both professional historians and non-professional historians.
