The essays and poems in this small book are the result of rummaging through the antique gemstones of my memory and the pleasure of putting words on paper. They are about people and events that, for reasons obscure, stand out over what has now been many years of varied experience. The entries are a kaleidoscope of other times and places, a fragmented sort-of-memoir strung together by retained images, the joy of making one's way in the world, the comfort of family, friends, and collegial relationships. The underlying theme throughout is wonder at the way the world works.
