October 1957, Sputnik 1 streaks across the American skies. But, in this world, it's not the opening shot in a space race but the final proof of Russian domination across the Atlantic. The USA is now a fading memory - the disastrous consequence of FDR's early assassination and Washington's atomic pact with Hitler - and the People's Republic of America, the Soviet Union's most promising new vassal state, is the new reality.

But something is stirring below the rubble in the conquered ex-USA - something which threatens to throw the world back nto the atomic fires of war. On the night of Sputnik's launch, three Moscow-aligned politicians are brutally murdered at a checkpoint in New York City. Their bodies are incinerated and a grim Swastika is laid out in burning petrol. Disgraced Colonel Zhenya Levine of the KGB is liberated from the gulag and sent back to her American homeland to unravel the mystery. She has ten days to solve the murders, expose the plot and avert a full-scale reinvasion of North America by her Soviet masters.

In New York, other forces are set into motion - now on a collision course Zhenya's mission. Nick Rosini is an idealistic teenaged American revolutionary waging a bloody vendetta against his Russian Conquerors. Gerald Hayes, the hardline Director of State Security for the People's Republic, wants to stop him. And underneath it all, is there is a plot to bring down the entire edifice of this new world order - for better or worse?
