First published in 1922, this is Arthur Avalon's rendering of the Hymn to Kali, with extensive notes on the Tantric implications of the work. John Woodroffe (1865-1936), while holding public offices such as Law Professor and Chief Justice, was not only an expert on British and Indian law, but also a committed Sanskrit student, who eventually translated about 20 ancient Sanskrit works into English.
