Aprašymas

It is the cusp of the fourteenth century. High in a glen on a remote Scottish island, Pippa must be raised in secret, protected from a host of threats: feuding relatives, the predatory claws of the English king, and the rebellion raging on the mainland. She is twelve before she is told that a long-time family friend is not only an illustrious political figure, but is also her father. Even more appalling, he is now insistent that she join his household. She is at first angry enough at him to begin a rebellion of her own but the horrors of war quickly overwhelm her. Tragedy strikes her from every side and still the war drags on. She realizes that some powerful force motivates her people to die for the sake of a principle, but she is can make no sense of it. However, she is soon forced to make decisions too, as her parents did before her. And when her vision clears, she must deal, not only with her regrets, but with remorse as well.
