Aprašymas

"Walls have ears, but sometimes they have mouths with which to speak." Filton Shields, UPI

Penny Cornwall believes she has found peace and contentment in the arms of Harry Winchester, a man weighed down by emotional scars and guilt from his past. He, too, has found happiness again in the beautiful Cotswold stone cottage they share, but Penny’s rural idyll is soon shattered when she hears snippets of classical music she does not recognise. Harry, meanwhile, cannot hear or see what Penny can.

With the music plaguing her days and constantly disturbing her nights, she witnesses ghostly images dancing to the melody. Thus begins a fruitless search to find the source of the music and its title, a quest that becomes an obsession which takes over her life. When Elaine Frampton, a colleague of Harry’s, lets slip details surrounding Lorna and their children’s death, Penny becomes convinced it is all Harry’s doing, before her attention shifts to Elaine, whom Penny believes is in love with him and wants her out of the way.

It takes the intervention of an eminent archaeologist who firmly believes every strange phenomenon has a rational, scientific answer, to disentangle the music’s connection to their cottage, unravelling a tragic story of love from a century before bound by the music transcending the barriers of time.
