Aprašymas
This volume presents new research on the role narrative plays in the cultivation of virtue. The essays demonstrate how recent work from the philosophy of mind and action concerning our understanding of the self can shed new light on the nature of practical wisdom and human flourishing.
Virtue, Narrative, and Self is unique in that it connects two philosophical areas that have long been treated as distinct areas of studies: virtue ethics and narrative accounts of personal identity. Chapters address several important issues and neglected themes at the intersection of these research areas. Specific examples include the role of narrative in the identification and differentiation of virtues, practical reasoning and moral competence, and human flourishing and the influence of life's narrative structure on our conceptions of what it means to live and act well.
This book will be of interest to scholars and advanced working in virtue ethics, personal identity, moral education, and practical reasoning.
