When a German construction crew arrives at a remote village of Petite Vigne to build a flak battery, its inhabitants are submerged in the war they had kept at bay for four long years. Will they now settle for an undeclared truce with the occupiers? Opt to resist? Or will collaborators among them endanger the entire community?

Matters are no less complicated among the enemy. The construction foreman's friendly relationship with the French mayor gives rise to conflicting emotions in his assistant, an ardent Nazi whose life he had saved in Russia. When the flak battery commander and a ruthless military policeman become the foreman's adversaries, the stage is set for a confrontation that will affect both Frenchmen and Germans alike.
