Aprašymas

A harrowing but deeply uplifting book about healing against all odds, written by an award-winning writer with deep access to Dr. William Petit, whose entire family was murdered in a Connecticut home invasion reminiscent of In Cold Blood

On July 22, 2007, William Petit, a successful Ivy League-educated doctor and pillar of the community, enjoyed a nice dinner with his wife and two young daughters.  At 3:00 the next morning, Petit's world was shattered by a series of heinous events that ended in the torture and brutal murders of his wife and two daughters.

The Rising is not only about a man absorbing an unimaginable blow, it’s about the human impulse to live, even when it seems there is nothing to live for. Petit’s family was taken from him in the most wrenching way imaginable, forcing him to face questions he never wanted to ask: What’s the point of life? Would it have been better never to have found love at all, when the void left by the departed is so cruel and endless? What is the life I built worth to the world? These are questions all of us, in a much less urgent way, face just by being alive.

Today, seven years after the tragedy, Petit is remarried and has a new baby boy, William.  He hasn't practiced medicine since that night, but he has made his way back to a place where happiness is possible. The Rising will inspire anyone who has faced extraordinarily difficult circumstances.  Bill Petit’s remarkable story has the potential to change the lives of millions of readers, offering a profound and moving example of indomitable love, astonishing determination, and the power of the human spirit.
