This work by a renowned Plato scholar presents the thought of the great Greek philosopher with historical accuracy & objective analysis. A brief introductory chapter about the philosopher's life is followed by an in-depth examination of his writings, particularly the dialogs. A substantial appendix explores works often attributed to Plato.
Alfred Edward Taylor (12/22/1869-10/31/1945) was a British idealist philosopher known for his contributions to idealist philosophy in his writings on metaphysics, the philosophy of religion, moral philosophy & Plato. He was a fellow of the British Academy ('11) & president of the Aristotelian Society ('28-29). At Oxford he was made an honorary fellow of New College in '31. In an age of upheaval, he was a notable defender of Idealism in the Anglo-Saxon world. As a Plato scholar, he's perhaps most famous for presenting evidence in support of the position the vast majority of the statements of Socrates in the Platonic dialogs accurately depict ideas of the historical man himself. His magnum opus, Plato: The Man & His Work ('26) & his commentary on the Timaeus ('27) are important contributions to the higher learning of his time.
