Six Ethics proposes a rights-based approach to ethics and morality in order to create a more equitable world. The book examines the role of religion in human society, and the development of rational thought, science, and law, as related to human rights, civil liberties, and personal freedoms. Through a systematic presentation of the fundamental ethical principles that underlie the articulation and defense of human rights and civil liberties, a framework that allows religion and rationality to co-exist peacefully is developed.
The Golden Rule, or "Do unto others that which you would have them do unto you," is the most common belief of all religions. It forms the framework's foundation as the first ethic, The Ethic of Reciprocity. Five additional ethics are used to formulate, apply to, and interpret our laws.
