Are Asian cities, like many cities around the world, becoming "post-political"? Were they ever "political" in the first place? How have relationships between government and civil society developed in Asian cities? In answering these questions, this book examines the relationship between the state and civil society in a wide range of Asian cities. It demonstrates how democratic politics have become foreclosed in contemporary Asian cities, and explores how this situation can be overcome.
