Aprašymas

Parenting Children with Diabetes addresses the absence of information needed for successfully diabetes management including more advanced diabetes education, information on emotional trauma, relationships issues and problem inside and outside the home that are caused while growing up with diabetes. This book offers parents a 360-degree perspective of what is happening to their child as they grow into and grow up with diabetes, from diagnosis to monitoring and controlling their blood sugars to their exposure to other people's opinions in schools and other common situations as to how they should handle their diabetes. This book provides parents with special tools, insights and education so they can more confidently and effectively communicate, understand and empathize with their child's experience with diabetes and their child's relationship with the world around them. At the start of each chapter, Parenting Children with Diabetes shares the journey of several different children living with diabetes whom Eliot LeBow, MSW, LCSW, CDE, has worked with, as well as some of his own personal journey growing up with diabetes. These experiences are universal to most children who grow up with diabetes and their parents who are raising a child with diabetes. In the Child's Perspective section, the reader is given a deep dive into the feelings of what the child described in the first part of the chapter was going through, thereby illustrating the thoughts and feelings of the child who is diagnosed with diabetes during childhood and giving the reader unique insights into what their child with diabetes is going through. In the Parent's Advice section, the reader learns ways to approach and help their child manage his/her feelings when similar events happen to them. In the final section of the chapter, Clinical Advice, the reader is provided information that helps them follow through with the previously given advice as well as additional information that helps parent better manage their child's diabetes and emotional needs. Parenting Children with Diabetes offers Insights and suggestions as to how to best communicate with a child to help reduce the struggles between the parent and child while increasing the bond between them. Ultimately, parents will gain a sense of understanding, preparedness, confidence and hope that they will be able to weather the storm that is diabetes.
