Aprašymas

William MacLeod Raine was hailed as the greatest living practitioner of the Western story. This Western duo presents two of Raine s finest Western stories collected now for the first time in book form.

"Scalisi Claws Leather" is set in Arizona during the prohibition era. The notorious Chicago gangster, Peter Scalisi, has come to the Bar BQ dude ranch to hide out for a while. He has only contempt for the hicks he encounters at the Bar BQ, but waitress Rose Dunn and top cowhand Jim Falconer show him a thing or two. Scalisi has some lessons to learn about Westerners, and he will have to learn them the hard way.

The code of the West by which Westerners live is embodied in Boone Sibley in "Long Texan." Upon his arrival in Tough Nut, Arizona, Sibley's actions to protect a small child, who wanders into the line of fire of a hardcase out to shoot the local newspaper editor, lands him as an enemy of the toughest men in town, who up to this point have been able to do as they pleased with no one standing against them. Whip Quinn, the leader of the group, informs Sibley that Tucson would be a good place for him. Instead, Boone Sibley decides that he likes the climate and the people in Tough Nut, and that's where he plans to stay, only to find himself accused of stage robbery and murder.
