The notes escalate in their accusations until she begins to wonder if she is losing her mind due to the anticonvulsant medication she takes. Could this be my own doing? As a result of encephalitis she suffered as little girl, Katie is afflicted with psycho-motor epilepsy. As the story unfolds, the reader learns about this disorder and its treatment. As Katie says, "I don't try to hide it, but it's not something you want to go around broadcasting, either. People are still in the Dark Ages about epilepsy and seizure disorders."
