Aprašymas
This work seeks to explore conservative Christian politics in the USA and Russia. It's origins lie in both discussions of secularisation and in the growing literature which suggests that 'God is back' in the public sphere. Whilst secularisation continues to chip away at religious adherence and practice in Europe, religion is seen as a much more influential force in Russia and the USA.In the first the primary religious actor is the Russian Orthodox Church; in the USA it has since 1980s been the so-called Christian Right. One is a religious institution, the other a broad social movement, but both are socially conservative actors seeking to halt the perceived drift towards a more secular political order Both face considerable challenges in seeking to fight back against the consequences of secularisation, secularism, pluralism and liberal individualism, and both believe that their nations can only be great if they remain true to their religious heritage.Anderson seeks to set out the different strategies that are being employed, and examining how their political responses are shaped by the context and opportunities structures available to them.Drawing on political, sociological and religious studies, this work will be a useful reference for students and scholars of religion & politics, russian poltiics and american politics.
