Set in contemporary Shanghai, BESOTTED explores themes of sexuality and identity through the story of two American women who are fooled into love, and the man who comes between them.

Sasha, a depressed expat who left the States to escape her father, finds salvation in Liz, a broken-hearted newcomer to Shanghai—a city where new identities are tossed on as easily as knock-off purses. Dorian, a charming womanizer who believes he’s ready to settle down, offers Sasha another option, but she rejects his advances, clinging instead to Liz as her only chance at happiness. Liz isn’t so brave when asked to bring their relationship out of the bedroom, though. Her fear and her lover’s dishonesty leave Liz searching for an escape. She finds it in Dorian: after an afternoon at a bar and a night in his bed, she feels certain her betrayal will be the end of the relationship. Sasha is willing to forgive almost anything, though, and finally Liz flees the country without saying goodbye. Five years later, the fate of Sasha’s new relationship depends on her figuring out why Liz abandoned her.
