Aprašymas
A humorous book about animals that ought to exist, but don't.
In this book, you will find the Green Fox, the Straight Snake of Assam, and the Garlic Rat of Alabama. Read about the penguin that provides a back-scratching service to other penguins, the skua that only builds vertical nests, and the snake that hangs from trees pretending to be a vine.
The Bactrian heron is famed for its legendary concentration. When the leader of the Rashidun Caliphate forces at the Battle of the Oxus River in 651 AD, Ahnaf ibn Qais, was walking with his advisers by the river before the battle, legend has it that he saw a Bactrian Heron stalking a fish. He and his people watched as the heron barely moved for half-an-hour until the fish was close enough for the heron to strike. Ahnaf turned to his advisers and said that if his forces had half the patience of the bird, they would win the day.
The Central American Tern is the world's most restless migratory bird, flying from Northern Mexico to the jungles of Columbia and back again up to six times a year. Avian experts believe that the original Central American Terns were the product of relationships between Arctic Terns and Antarctic Terns who were resting in Central America when they were on their long annual migrations. This would mean that the Central American Tern would have tremendous innate stamina for flying for long periods of time, but would also mean the bird would be conflicted about where it wanted to be in the world, hence the almost constant flying north and south.
