Aprašymas
As our society ages and our medical system groans, more and more of us will find ourselves caring for a loved one at home. Yet this crucial act of love and compassion is one we so rarely celebrate, or even see. Not by chance, it is one that has fallen disproportionately to women.
For nearly a decade, Kate Mosse was a carer to her dad, who had Parkinson's. Here, she tells her own story, and uncovers the many hidden stories of those who have taken on the joys, frustrations, rewards, hilarity, anguish and agonies of this quietly heroic role - by choice or necessity.
She sets out to trace the hidden history of care-giving, taking us on a journey to trace the long-forgotten lives of carers in the past, who we meet in the diaries and recipe books for family cures and folk remedies that have survived the centuries. Alongside this, she explores the very contemporary landscape of care in a world of slashed budgets, and the women who are bearing the brunt of austerity - and holding families together.
