Aprašymas
Interest in the amateur moving image has never been stronger, due in part to advances in technology, and indeed the area now holds an unprecedented potential appeal not only for film studies but for the humanities. One of the effects of these shifts is the coming into being of new interpretative frameworks, which can be usefully applied to both old and current examples of amateur film and video making.
Amateur Filmmaking aims to introduce the evolving scholarly panorama and, indeed, influence and shape it. More specifically, the volume argues for and clarifies the importance of amateur cinema as an absolutely key object of interest and study for multiple disciplines. The editors showcase the variety of amateur filmmaking, from home movies of Imperial India and film diaries of life in contemporary China, to the work of leading auteurs such as Joseph Morder and Peter Forgács. With essays on the role of the archive and the impact of new technologies on amateur filmmaking, these 21 essays offer the first comprehensive survey on this growing field.
