Again, she can see nothing. She feels hot breath on her nape. Her nostrils are infiltrated with that pungent odor of dead, rotting meat. It is the smell of the thing that visited her in that small bedroom in the cabin in the woods. She whirls around-nothing is there. Kass begins to cry out from all the fright that engulfs all her senses. The light above her winks out. Total blackness befalls her.

The darkness breathes in, and it breathes out.
